Windows for pool houses
Air over a pool is warm, wet and faintly chemical, and that combination goes after the two parts of a window that are easiest to under-specify: the hardware and the finish. Chlorine carried in water vapour settles on hinges and locking gear and works away at them quietly for months, and where the villa is near the shore the salt in the air joins in. The glass has a separate problem: on humid mornings the outside air meets panes cooled by the air conditioning, and moisture beads on the outer face. So the specification here is about materials and moving air, not about heat.

Profile finish and coating options
Powder coating in any shade of the RAL palette; the colour is confirmed against a physical sample at the survey.
Anodising builds an oxide layer on the profile itself, so the colour belongs to the metal rather than to a film on top of it and cannot peel.
Wood-grain and stone-effect finishes are transferred onto the powder coating. The profile keeps the strength of aluminium and never needs repainting.

How a poolside opening is specified
- Distance from the water measured The splash zone is specified apart
- Coastal exposure noted at the survey Salt and chlorine together are worse
- Hardware upgraded to stainless throughout Including the screws nobody sees
- Safety glazing where somebody could fall Full-height panes above all
- Thresholds kept low and drained Wet feet cross them all day
- Openings placed for cross-ventilation An extract alone will not dry a room

The honest downside
Before you glaze in the pool house
Glazing a room beside the pool closes it around warm, wet, faintly chemical air. Once the doors are shut that air has to be moved out by openings or by machines, and a pool house left closed for days tends to smell of it.
Upkeep does not stop at the hardware either. Splash and irrigation leave mineral marks on the low panes, chlorinated water dries on the frames, and near the coast both want a fresh-water rinse far more often than the windows of the house.
If the space is used open for most of the day, a shaded, open-sided gazebo by the water gives the same shelter with no glass to keep clear and no room to dry out. A glazed pool house stays the right answer where it has to be cooled, locked and used as a room all year.
