Pool enclosures

Enclosing a pool changes the air around it — humid and carrying chlorine, pressed against glass with very different air on the other side: hotter in summer, cooler on a winter morning. Everything inside that room is chosen for the atmosphere rather than for the view: the coating on the aluminium, the metal inside the hinges, the route the moist air takes before it can settle on the panes. Near the coast, salt gives a second reason to be careful about anything that moves.

Why choose aluminium windows?

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with three EPDM seal contours highlighted in red

    Durable EPDM seals

Three contours of EPDM seals keep the glass off the aluminium and close the gap between sash and frame, so dust, humid salt air and wind-driven rain stay outside.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with a foamed thermal insert highlighted

    Foamed thermal inserts

Foamed inserts fill the profile chambers and stop air circulating inside them, so less outside heat and street noise passes through the frame into the cooled room.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with polyamide thermal breaks highlighted

    Polyamide thermal breaks

Glass-filled polyamide thermal breaks up to 40 mm wide keep the outer and inner shells apart, so the frame holds its shape and its insulation through a UAE summer.

  • Aluminium window profile with an energy-efficient double glazing unit highlighted

    Energy-efficient double glazing

Double glazing up to 60 mm thick puts a sealed gap of still air or gas between the hot street and the cooled room, so less heat crosses the glass into the room.

Partitions

Office partitions made of aluminium profiles are a simple, quick, and cost-effective way to organise efficient zoning within a large space, while maintaining interior unity.

The honest downside

What enclosing a pool commits you to

An enclosed pool is a room full of warm, wet air, and it stays that way every day of the year. In summer it runs on the cooling like the rest of the house, the moist air has to be drawn off continuously or the glass mists and the frames stay wet, and the hardware needs rinsing and checking far more often than anywhere else.

It also changes the pool itself: swimming under glass instead of under the sky, with less breeze and a roof or upper panes to keep clean.

If the main worry is keeping small children away from the water, a glass pool fence does that with none of the ventilation, cooling or extra upkeep. An enclosure is the right answer when the pool has to be usable through the summer or shielded from dust, neighbours and noise.

Consider instead Pool fencing

Frequently asked questions

Because humid air touches a pane that is colder than it is, and in a pool room that can happen on either face. On a cool winter morning the moist pool air meets the room side of the glass; on a humid summer morning, with the room running on the cooling, the outside air meets the chilled outer face. Two things help and they work together: an insulated unit and a thermally broken frame, which keep each face nearer the temperature of the air beside it, and taking the moist air away at high level before it drifts onto the glass. A single-skin enclosure is far more likely to run wet on a cool morning, however the ventilation is set.

The aluminium itself is protected by its coating and holds up well. What gives way first is ordinary steel hidden inside fixings, hinges and screws, which is why we specify stainless components and details that can be rinsed rather than pockets where damp air sits. It is a specification decision, not a maintenance one — you cannot upgrade a screw you cannot reach.

They can. Sliding or folding walls can stand open from November through March, which ventilates the room far better than any mechanical system, then seal for the summer when the space goes back onto the cooling circuit.

Not everywhere. Laminated glass is used where somebody could walk into it or fall against it, because a laminated pane holds together on its interlayer. Toughened glass on its own breaks into loose fragments, and a wet deck with bare feet is the last place you want them.
