uPVC or aluminium: choose by the opening
Neither material is better everywhere. A uPVC frame is a good insulator with a steel or glass-fibre core inside; an aluminium frame is a strong section with insulation engineered into it. That difference decides where each belongs.
in bedrooms and studies on a busy road, bathrooms, stores, staff rooms and whole apartments with ordinary window sizes. Several sealing lines with acoustic glass give a quiet room for less than aluminium.
on wide terrace doors, floor-to-ceiling glass, high floors where wind pressure grows, and anywhere the frame has to look slim.
Plastic expands more than aluminium, so large uPVC units are drawn conservatively here and dark finishes are chosen with care. White and light laminated colours are the safe choice on a west wall.

Glass and frame for the UAE climate
- Glass does most of the work. We make the glass units in our own factory. A solar control coating, the strongest on west and south walls, moves more heat than the choice of frame; the Dubai Building Code limits the shading coefficient of every window. Acoustic laminated glass reaches up to 43 dB (Rw+Ctr) for a bedroom by a highway or under a flight path.
- Reinforcement. Sashes and frames that carry load get a steel core; REHAU ARTEVO and Deceuninck Elegant use glass fibre instead.
- Colour. White is the default, and the Deceuninck sliders we fit are white only; REHAU offers laminated wood and grey finishes, and on a sunny elevation darker colours are specified with extra care because the profile heats up and moves more.

Questions about uPVC windows
Can uPVC windows take the UAE heat?
Yes, when the profile comes from an established systems house: it is stabilised against ultraviolet light and made for hot markets. The frames that yellow and crack here are almost always unbranded profile bought on price. Ask which system is in the quote and who makes it.
Does white uPVC turn yellow?
Branded white profile is made to keep its colour in strong sun. Yellowing points to cheap profile without a traceable system behind it. Gaskets are the part that ages first in the sun, on uPVC and aluminium alike, and they are replaced on a service visit.
How long do uPVC windows last?
The profile outlasts the parts that wear: gaskets harden in direct sun, drainage channels fill with sand, hardware wants adjusting. A sash replacement years later depends on that profile still being stocked, which is an argument for a widely supplied system such as REHAU or Deceuninck.
Is uPVC cheaper than aluminium?
For an ordinary rectangular opening, uPVC is the less expensive way to a tight, quiet, well insulated window, and the saving often pays for better glass. Large, high or slim openings stay aluminium whatever the budget. The exact figure comes with the quote after the survey.
Can I fit uPVC windows in an apartment?
Yes, tilt-and-turn included: the permission is in place. The building or developer often fixes the outside look, sometimes the material too, so we check with the management company before drawing.
