Arched windows

An arch is really two windows in one frame — a curved head rolled to a radius, and a straight-sided field beneath it that behaves like any ordinary window. That division is also how the type gets specified, because opening hardware is made for straight edges: the arch stays fixed and the opening leaf sits underneath it, where the stiles are parallel and the gear is standard. The shape belongs to a great deal of villa architecture here, from the semicircular head over a majlis to the shallow segmental arch on a townhouse elevation, and every one of those is a different curve that has to be taken off the built wall rather than assumed from a drawing.

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

How an arched window is set out

  • Span and rise measured on the built opening Two figures define the whole curve
  • Head shape agreed against the elevation Semicircular, segmental or elliptical
  • Fixed and opening fields divided The sash stays under the springing line
  • Profile rolled, then the frame assembled Bending happens before finishing
  • Glass cut to the head and toughened Edge polished before it is hardened
  • Fitted into the arch and sealed Packers follow the curve round

The honest downside

The trouble with an arched head

The curve itself only lets light in. The head is glazed fixed, so however tall the arch, the room gets its air through the sash below it, and much of the glass does nothing for ventilation. Covering it is awkward too: blinds and curtain tracks are straight, so the head either stays bare to the sun or needs a made-to-measure shade.

The shape costs more at every step. The profile is rolled, the glass is cut to the head and toughened, and a cracked pane in the arch is remade to that curve rather than taken from stock.

If the opening in the wall is rectangular and the arch would only be a look, a straight-headed casement is simpler to shade, ventilate and service. Arched stays the right answer where the curve is already built into the villa and the elevation depends on it.

Consider instead Casement windows

Frequently asked questions

Not in the usual sense. Standard hinges, stays and locks need a straight edge to be fixed to, and a curved head gives them little to bear against. The working answer is the one we usually draw: the arch is glazed as a fixed light, and the leaf that gives the room its air goes into the rectangular field below, where a casement or a tilt-and-turn behaves exactly as it would in any other window.

It changes what happens at the bending machine. A semicircle is a single constant radius and the simplest of the three to roll true. A segmental arch — the shallow curve you see across most townhouse elevations — is a much larger radius, where a small error in the setting shows as a flat spot along the top. An ellipse changes radius as it goes and has to be formed to a template. All three are made here; they just occupy the machine for different lengths of time.

Yes, and that is why we template rather than measure. Built arches are hardly ever the clean geometry the drawing shows — they were set out by hand, and the two ends of the same elevation can differ. We take the profile of each opening onto a template, roll each head to its own curve and fit into the existing reveal, so the plaster and the stonework stay where they are.

Heat separates by height, and the layer that collects under a high ceiling sits exactly where an arch is glazed, so two things matter. The first is the unit in the arch itself: solar control on the outer pane stops much of the load before it enters the room. The second is where the air can leave — a fixed arch cannot vent, so we place an opening leaf low in the same wall and let the cooled air work with the stratification instead of against it.
