Panic exit doors

An exit door is designed for the worst moment: a crowd moving quickly, in poor light, towards a door none of them has ever used. The hardware answers that by demanding no knowledge and no key — a horizontal bar across the leaf releases the latch under the pressure of a body. It opens in the direction people are already travelling, and it must never be lockable against them from the inside.

Why choose aluminium windows?

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with three EPDM seal contours highlighted in red

    Durable EPDM seals

Three contours of EPDM seals keep the glass off the aluminium and close the gap between sash and frame, so dust, humid salt air and wind-driven rain stay outside.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with a foamed thermal insert highlighted

    Foamed thermal inserts

Foamed inserts fill the profile chambers and stop air circulating inside them, so less outside heat and street noise passes through the frame into the cooled room.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with polyamide thermal breaks highlighted

    Polyamide thermal breaks

Glass-filled polyamide thermal breaks up to 40 mm wide keep the outer and inner shells apart, so the frame holds its shape and its insulation through a UAE summer.

  • Aluminium window profile with an energy-efficient double glazing unit highlighted

    Energy-efficient double glazing

Double glazing up to 60 mm thick puts a sealed gap of still air or gas between the hot street and the cooled room, so less heat crosses the glass into the room.

Partitions

Office partitions made of aluminium profiles are a simple, quick, and cost-effective way to organise efficient zoning within a large space, while maintaining interior unity.

The honest downside

When a panic exit door is the wrong entrance

A panic exit door is designed to let people out, not in. It opens outward, releases with one push from inside and must never be lockable against the escape route, so as a main entrance used both ways it needs an outside access device, and every visitor arrives by pulling a leaf towards them.

The outward swing needs space beyond: a leaf opening onto a narrow corridor or a pavement can strike somebody walking past. And the hardware looks like what it is — a push bar reads as a back-of-house door, rarely what a reception wants to show.

Where one entrance carries steady two-way traffic and also sits on the escape route, an automatic door with break-out leaves can often serve both, if the fire strategy accepts it. A panic exit door remains the right choice for dedicated exits, stair doors and staff routes, where the only job is to open instantly under pressure.

Consider instead Automatic doors

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and the two are not in conflict as long as the security works only from outside. The bar always releases from within; the outer face can carry a keyed or coded access device, and the door can be alarmed so casual use is noticed. What is never acceptable is a bolt or a chain that stops the bar doing its job.

It matters once numbers of people are involved. A bar running the full width of the leaf can be reached by anyone arriving at any part of the door, which is exactly what a route serving a crowd needs. A push pad is compact, tidier and perfectly adequate on a back door used only by staff.

Only where the route it serves is a protected one, and that is set out in the building's fire strategy rather than decided door by door. Where both apply, the escape hardware has to belong to the door's certified set — the two are specified together, never bolted together afterwards.

That is precisely what an alarmed exit device is for. The bar still opens the door instantly, but opening it sets off a local sounder and, where the door is monitored, registers at the panel. Shortcut traffic tends to disappear as soon as it becomes audible.
