Why an outward-opening door
A door that opens out leaves the room free and closes against the frame under wind pressure, which helps on a windy roof terrace or a beach-facing villa. It is also the usual direction for exit doors from offices, shops and gyms. With flush interior gaskets the door reads as a calm panel from inside, which suits a minimal interior.
The figures that set the size
Leaves up to 1500 mm wide and 2700 mm high cover most terrace and service doors, and up to 150 kg is enough for a double-glazed leaf of that size. Glass up to 32 mm takes a solar-control double-glazed unit, though not the thickest acoustic or security build-ups.
Watertightness 1000 Pa, wind class C5 and air permeability class 4 are good figures for an exposed outward door. Sand still collects at any threshold, so we plan the outside step and the sill so that water and grit run away from the door.
GWD 070SK Concealed or GWD 070
GWD 070 is the heavier-duty door of the family: glass up to 55 mm in the leaf, burglar resistance up to RC 3 / WK 3, side panels, transom lights and a panic option. Take GWD 070SK Concealed where an outward leaf and a clean flush interior look matter; GWD 070 where security class and thick glass come first.
GWD 070SK Concealed is the GUTMANN door for outward-opening terrace and exit doors with a clean interior face and published sizes up to 1500 × 2700 mm.
