Contemporary villa with floor-to-ceiling glazing and slim dark frames on a wide landscaped plot in Meydan

Windows in Meydan

Meydan is new, low in density and built with a great deal of glass, so the questions here are structural before they are decorative. A pane running from the floor to the underside of the slab is doing something a small window never does: it stands beneath a structure that moves. Concrete deflects as a building takes up its load and settles over its first years, and a window head fixed hard to that slab passes the movement into the glass, which glass tolerates exactly once. The rest follows from weight — panes this size are set by machine rather than by hand, and the route the lifter takes across a finished floor is agreed before the glass is ordered.

Why choose aluminium windows?

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with three EPDM seal contours highlighted in red

    Durable EPDM seals

Three contours of EPDM seals keep the glass off the aluminium and close the gap between sash and frame, so dust, humid salt air and wind-driven rain stay outside.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with a foamed thermal insert highlighted

    Foamed thermal inserts

Foamed inserts fill the profile chambers and stop air circulating inside them, so less outside heat and street noise passes through the frame into the cooled room.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with polyamide thermal breaks highlighted

    Polyamide thermal breaks

Glass-filled polyamide thermal breaks up to 40 mm wide keep the outer and inner shells apart, so the frame holds its shape and its insulation through a UAE summer.

  • Aluminium window profile with an energy-efficient double glazing unit highlighted

    Energy-efficient double glazing

Double glazing up to 60 mm thick puts a sealed gap of still air or gas between the hot street and the cooled room, so less heat crosses the glass into the room.

How a glass wall is built in

  • Opening surveyed from slab to slab An engineer is with you within 48 hours
  • Head drawn with a movement gap The building settles; the glass must not feel it
  • Panel sizes set by what can get in Doorways, turning space and lifting room measured
  • Lifting plant and floor protection agreed Finished stone and timber boarded over first
  • Fabricated in our own Dubai plant Three to five weeks once the drawing is signed
  • Glass checked in daylight before handover Seals, drainage and every edge inspected

Frequently asked questions

Glass almost never fails in the middle; it fails from an edge, and the two usual causes are both invisible from inside the room. One is stress: a pane clamped hard at the head, or bedded onto a hard point instead of onto proper setting blocks, has nowhere to go when the structure above it deflects or when the metal around it expands in the afternoon. The other is a nick in the edge from handling, which sits there for months and then opens up on the first hot day. Both are prevented in the detail rather than diagnosed afterwards, which is why the head joint on a full-height window matters more than the specification of the glass.

The limit is rarely the profile. It is what can be carried into the room, what can be lifted safely once it is there, and what the hardware has to do afterwards — a bigger sliding leaf is not just more glass, it is heavier rollers, a stiffer track and a door that has to stay pleasant to move ten years from now. We measure the route first: the gate, the doorways, the turning space and the room for a lifter to stand. Where the glass cannot get to the opening in one piece, we divide it on the drawing, where a division can be made to look deliberate.

It is, when it is specified as such, and this is worth being deliberate about rather than assuming. Glass that reaches the floor is laminated or toughened so that a fall against it does not put anyone through it; the pane keeps its shape when it breaks instead of coming down. A large clear pane also has to be visible — a rail, a transom or a mark at eye level so that nobody walks into what they cannot see. And where a full-height sash opens, the handle position and a restrictor are part of the order, not an afterthought.

Because that is how flat glass is made and toughened, and on a small window nobody ever notices. Large panes reflect enough of the sky to show the faint waviness left by the manufacturing rollers, and a sealed unit can also bow very slightly as the air trapped inside it warms and cools, which bends the reflection with it. Neither affects the strength, the sealing or the view out. We mention it before you order because on a long elevation of big panes it is visible from the garden, and it is much easier to hear now than to be surprised by at handover.
