Hinged doors

A hinged door is the simplest arrangement there is, and everything else about it is a consequence of one decision: the leaf hangs from a single edge. The full weight of an aluminium frame and its glazing sits on two or three hinges and works on the jamb every time somebody walks through. In return you get the tightest closure of any door type, because the leaf compresses a gasket right around its perimeter instead of brushing past a track. That trade — a loaded edge for a sealed one — is what the specification is really about.

  • two or three hinges per leaf

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

The order we settle a hinged door in

  • Reveal checked for square and plumb A swinging leaf shows any twist in the wall
  • Handing and swing direction agreed Where the leaf lives when it is open
  • Hinges rated to leaf and glass weight Heavier leaves move up to three
  • Closer chosen for the room, not the door Conditioned air pushes a light leaf around
  • Threshold and weather bar detailed External leaves shed water off the sill
  • Hinges set after the frame is fixed Adjustment belongs to the fit, not a callback

The honest downside

When a hinged door is not the right choice

The seal that makes a hinged door so tight comes with a sweep. Every leaf needs a clear arc of floor in front of it, and in a narrow room or on a small balcony that arc is often the most useful space there is. Opened outward on an exposed elevation, the leaf becomes a sail in a gust.

All the weight sits on one edge. The wider and heavier the glazing, the harder the leaf works its hinges and jamb, which caps the practical leaf size and makes occasional adjustment part of owning the door. In a room the air conditioning pressurises, a light leaf also needs a proper closer.

For wide openings, or where furniture has to stand close to the glass, a sliding door keeps the whole sweep of floor usable. A hinged door is still the better answer where the tightest closure matters more than space: entrances and rooms facing dust and wind.

Frequently asked questions

Two carry an ordinary leaf comfortably. A third is added when the leaf is tall, when the glazing is thick, or when the door will be used constantly — not because two would fail outright, but because the load per hinge is what decides whether the door still shuts sweetly in a few seasons. The count comes out of the leaf weight we calculate from the glass build-up, so it is settled on the drawing rather than guessed on site.

Because the room is not at the same pressure as the space next to it. A cooling system that supplies more air than it extracts leaves the room slightly pressurised, and a light aluminium leaf is happy to be pushed by that. It is not a fault in the door. The fix is a closer sized for the pressure rather than for the weight of the leaf, and sometimes a latch that engages positively instead of relying on the gasket to hold the leaf shut.

Inward keeps the leaf out of the wind and lets a screen sit outside it, which suits balcony and courtyard doors. Outward keeps the swing arc out of a tight room and makes it much harder to force the leaf through the frame, which is why it is common on entrances. What matters more than the direction is where the water goes: an outward leaf closes against the weather from the outside face, so the threshold and weather bar are drawn differently for each.

It can droop at the lock edge, usually because the load has settled on the hinges or the frame has moved slightly in the reveal. On our systems this is a routine correction rather than a replacement — the hinges adjust vertically, laterally and in compression, so the leaf can be lifted back into plane and pressed harder or softer against the gasket. If it keeps returning, the answer is in the frame fixings, and that is what we check first.
