The honest downside
Before you choose glass for an interior door
Glass passes light both ways. A glazed door to a bedroom lets the hallway light in at night, and even fluted or frosted glass shows movement and shadow on the far side — fine for a kitchen or a study, less so for a room where somebody sleeps.
Sound is the bigger limit. Even with a gasket line and a drop seal, a slim frame and a single pane take the edge off a conversation rather than stopping it, and a sliding leaf seals less tightly than a hinged one. Fingerprints at hand height come with the territory too.
Where a room has to be genuinely quiet — a study for calls, a media room, a bedroom beside a busy living area — an acoustic door with a dense leaf and an automatic drop seal is the right product. An interior glass door remains the better choice where borrowed daylight and a sense of openness matter more than silence.

Glass in a walk-through leaf is toughened, which makes it several times stronger than ordinary glass and, if it ever does break, sends it into blunt granules instead of shards. For extra reassurance in a family home, laminated glass holds those fragments on an interlayer so the pane stays in its frame.
Enough to take the edge off a room, nowhere near enough to make a recording booth. The frame perimeter and the floor gap leak far more than the pane does, so where privacy matters we add a drop seal and a full gasket line before anyone starts arguing about glass thickness.
Fluted glass distorts shapes while keeping the room bright. Sandblasted frosting gives an even veil and shows fingerprints more readily. Tinted glass darkens whatever is behind it, which is worth knowing before choosing it for an internal corridor with no window of its own.
Where the wall can host a cassette, yes — but that has to be decided while the partition is still open, since the pocket is built into the studwork. On a finished wall, a surface running track is the honest answer.
