Automatic doors

An automatic door is an ordinary door with a machine on top of it. An operator hidden in the header or the frame moves the leaf, and sensors tell it when somebody is arriving and when somebody is still standing in the way. From outside it looks like the simplest product on this site; in practice most of the specification is about what the door does when things go wrong, which is why the sensor layout and the behaviour on power loss are settled before the leaf itself is drawn. In the Emirates two things then decide how long the operator lasts: how often it runs, and how much dust it swallows.

  • sliding or swing how the leaf moves
  • header or frame where the operator sits
  • motion and presence sensors on every door

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

Settings agreed before commissioning

  • Traffic pattern and duty cycle A clinic entrance is not a back office
  • Sensor coverage mapped on the floor Blind spots are where accidents happen
  • Clear width and hold-open time Trolleys and wheelchairs set the pace
  • Behaviour on power loss decided Coordinated with the fire strategy
  • Break-out and manual mode tested The door has to work with no electricity
  • Cleaning routine handed over Track and sensor lens are scheduled jobs

The honest downside

When an automatic door is more than the entrance needs

An automatic door is a machine, and in this climate a machine has running costs. The track and the sensor lens go on a cleaning schedule, the operator needs servicing, and a door that cycles all day wears through its moving parts far sooner than a quiet manual leaf.

It also opens for anyone who comes close. Beside a busy pavement or a mall corridor, people walking past trigger it, and every opening lets hot, dusty air into a cooled room. The sensor zone can be narrowed, but only so far before the door starts hesitating for the people it is meant to serve.

A home is a different case: a heavy glass leaf that somebody opens on purpose calls for a motorised door started from a switch or a remote, not a sensor watching for movement. Automatic remains the right choice for clinics, shops and lobbies with a steady stream of visitors, trolleys and wheelchairs.

Consider instead Motorised doors

Frequently asked questions

Whatever you specified — that is the point of asking early. A door on an escape route is normally arranged to release, so it can be pushed open by hand or breaks out of its track under pressure. A door protecting stock or a server room is arranged to stay locked, and people leave by another route. Most premises need both behaviours at different doors, so the decision belongs with the fire strategy rather than with the door supplier alone, and we ask for it in writing before manufacture.

They are two different devices doing two different jobs. The activation sensor watches for movement towards the door and triggers the opening. The presence — or safety — sensor watches the threshold itself and simply reports whether anything is there, moving or not. That second one is what stops the door closing on a person who has paused in the opening, so it is the sensor whose aim needs the most care. We set both out on a floor plan and walk the door before handover.

Two reasons, both local. The first is duty: a shopfront in a Dubai mall cycles far more often than the same door in a small town, and every component has a finite number of movements in it. The second is dust. Fine sand works into the track, packs around the carriages and settles on the sensor lens, where it changes what the sensor sees. Neither is a defect, and both are managed by choosing an operator rated for the traffic and by putting the track and the lenses on a cleaning schedule.

Often, but it depends on what is above the door rather than on the door itself. A sliding operator needs a header deep enough to house the motor and the carriage and something solid to fix it to; a swing operator needs a sound frame and room for the arm. Where the head is shallow or the existing frame is tired, replacing the door set is cleaner and usually not much dearer than adapting it. Our engineer measures the head first — that is the answer to whether it is possible.
