Acoustic doors
An ordinary door with adhesive foam stuck round the frame is still an ordinary door. Three things separate a real set from that, and none of them works without the other two. A leaf dense enough that the air on the far side cannot drive it like a drum skin. Gaskets that get squeezed by the closing action instead of being brushed past. And a threshold that actually closes, because the gap under a door is a slot running the full width of the opening with nothing in it at all, and it undoes more than the leaf can make up. That last one is solved by a bar concealed in the bottom edge, which descends onto the floor as the door shuts and lifts clear again as it opens.

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

The honest downside
When an acoustic door will not solve it
A door set can only be as quiet as the wall it hangs in. Beside a stud partition with an open ceiling void above it, a return-air grille, or pipes and cables passing through, the door stops being the weakest route the moment it is fitted, and the noise simply goes round it.
It also has to suit how the door is used. On a door opened constantly — a kitchen, a busy corridor — the drop bar and gaskets are worked hard and wear first, and people start propping a heavy leaf open, which ends its purpose. Children and older people may find it a struggle without a powered operator.
In an open-plan office, where the goal is a quiet place for calls rather than a quiet room, a pod brings its own walls, door and ventilation. An acoustic door set is the right answer where the surrounding wall is solid and the door is the gap that remains.

Because it only touches where the leaf happens to arrive, and a hung door never arrives evenly. A latch pulls one point of the edge in tight and leaves the hinge stile and the head slacker, so an adhesive strip is crushed flat in one place and standing proud in another, with air moving past both. Then there is the leaf itself: a hollow-core panel weighs almost nothing and simply passes on what strikes it, sealed or not. And the strip does nothing whatever about the gap at the floor, which on most doors is the biggest single opening in the whole wall.
A small plunger sticks out of the hinge end of the bottom edge. As the door swings shut the plunger meets the frame, gets pushed in, and a mechanism inside the leaf pushes a gasketed bar downwards along the whole width; opening the door releases it and the bar lifts out of the way, so the leaf still swings over a rug without dragging. What defeats it is uneven ground. A sloping screed, a raised threshold strip or deep pile carpet means the bar meets the floor at one end well before the other, and you are back to a gap. The drop can be adjusted, but the floor has to be within reach of it in the first place.
Yes, and that is the point rather than a side effect. Weight is what refuses to be driven by the air pressing on it, so a light acoustic door is a contradiction in terms; when a supplier offers one, ask what the core is. What we can do is make the weight easy to live with — hinges sized for the leaf, a closer with the right force and a delay on the last part of the swing so it seats rather than bangs, and where the door is on an accessible route, a powered operator so nobody has to fight it. The leaf stays heavy; the handle stops feeling like it.
Sometimes, and the leaf decides. If it is solid through its thickness, there is real scope: pack and re-fix the frame so it stops flexing, cut a rebate into the bottom edge and fit a drop bar, replace the old sticky-back with proper compression gaskets in a machined groove, and change the hinges for the extra load. If the leaf is a hollow flush panel with cardboard inside, no amount of sealing rescues it, because there is no mass to seal in. We open the top edge and look before quoting either way.
