A folding door is for an opening that should disappear rather than just open. We fabricate Cortizo profiles to the manufacturer's specification in our Dubai factory and install them ourselves.
Terraces, garden rooms and café fronts
In a villa the Bi-fold turns the living room into part of the garden on winter evenings; in a café it opens the front onto the pavement; in a garden room it makes a shaded terrace out of a closed room. The stacked leaves park at the side, so the full width is free for people and furniture.
What the figures mean in heat and sand
Ud from 0.97 W/m²K is the published value for the door. With the leaves closed and the air conditioning on, every joint between leaves has to seal, so we adjust the whole run after installation. Leaves up to 120 kg allow laminated solar-control glass on a sun-facing terrace.
The bottom track is where sand collects. A drained sill, and in exposed gardens a slightly raised one, keeps the rollers out of the grit.
Bi-fold or 4600 Plus
The lift-and-slide 4600 Plus keeps the glass in one plane, with sashes up to 3300 × 3500 mm and a published Uw from 0.65 W/m²K. The Bi-fold gives up large panes to open the full width. Which is right depends on how often the wall will actually stand open.
The Cortizo Bi-fold is for openings that will be fully opened often; for glass that mostly stays shut, a lift-and-slide keeps the view cleaner.
