Concealed hinges

Shut the sash and there is nothing on the frame: no knuckle, no barrel, no interruption in the line. A concealed hinge lives in the rebate between frame and sash, a linked arm folded away into the groove, and it is bought almost entirely for that. What has to be understood before it goes onto a drawing is the price of hiding the mechanism — the geometry that keeps it out of sight also limits how much leaf it can carry and how far the sash will swing, and both frame and sash are machined for it in the factory, so it is not a fitting anyone can swap in later.

Branded Aluminum Windows UAE service car on a Dubai seafront road

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

How we decide for or against them

  • Sash weight worked out from the glass build Pane size and unit thickness drive it
  • Result compared against the set's rating Near the ceiling counts as over it
  • Wide openings split into more sashes Two lighter leaves beat one heavy one
  • Opening angle checked against cleaning Especially above ground level
  • Corrosion grade set by distance to the sea A hidden part still breathes salt air
  • Machining done in our Dubai factory With the profile, never on site

The honest downside

The price of a hidden hinge

The narrower swing is felt every day. A sash that stops short of a full opening lets in less air, and it leaves the outside of the glass harder to reach for cleaning, which matters most on an upper floor where nobody can get to it from outside.

Near the sea, the mechanism sits where salt collects and nobody looks, so wear tends to show only when the sash starts to drag. And on a heavy frame where a hinge knuckle would hardly be noticed, the unbroken line buys little for the extra cost and the slower servicing.

If the leaf is heavy or the window must open wide, a surface hinge finished in the frame colour is the practical choice. Concealed hinges stay worth it on slim profiles and dark finishes with moderate sashes, where an unbroken frame line is the point of the design.

Consider instead Handles and hardware

Frequently asked questions

Because of where the mechanism has to sit. A surface hinge can be a stout knuckle bolted through the face of the profile, taking the load in a straight line. A concealed hinge has to fold away into the rebate, which means a linked arm working through a shallow depth and at an unhelpful angle, and that geometry gives it less leverage over the same leaf. So the same window in the same profile carries a lower maximum sash weight on concealed hinges than on surface ones. It is not a difference in quality — it is what hiding the hinge costs.

Usually the glass. A tall leaf is one thing; a tall leaf carrying a laminated pane and a coated pane, or a triple build-up, is a different load entirely. When the calculation lands near the top of a set's range we do one of three things: step up to a heavier concealed set if the system offers one, split the opening so each leaf is lighter, or say plainly that this particular window wants a surface hinge. What we do not do is fit to the limit and hope.

Harder to reach, not harder to live with. The adjustment is all there — height, side and compression — but the screws sit inside the rebate, so the sash has to be opened and sometimes lifted to get at them, and a job that takes minutes on a surface hinge takes noticeably longer here. The practical consequence is about servicing rather than reliability: allow a little more time whenever it is serviced, and remember that a replacement part is specific to the system, which is worth knowing before choosing an obscure one.

No, and this is the thing worth getting right early. The hinge sits in recesses machined into the sash and the frame while the profile is being fabricated; a finished window has neither, and routing them into a glazed sash on site is not a repair, it is damage. If you want the unbroken frame line it belongs on the drawing before the profiles are cut. On windows already fitted, the honest options are a neater surface hinge or leaving it alone.
