Window tinting for buildings, not cars

Tinting a building is a different decision from tinting a car. On a home or an office the question is not how dark the glass looks but how much heat it stops, how much daylight you keep, and whether film on your existing glass is the right answer at all.

  • film or glass two different products
  • heat first darkness is not the measure

We produce

Curtain walls, structural and semi-structural glazing, ventilated and cassette facades. The system carries its own weight and the wind load of a tall building, and the glass line stays unbroken across the elevation.

How the work runs

  • Survey of the actual glazing, not a photograph Engineer on site within 48 hours
  • We tell you if film is the wrong answer for your glass Some units should not be filmed at all
  • Film grade chosen by heat rejection and light kept, in that order Shown against your own view before you decide
  • Building or landlord approval confirmed before we book the work Facade appearance is usually controlled
  • Application in a cleaned, dust-controlled room Blown dust under film is the one defect that cannot be corrected
  • Curing period explained, with what is normal to see and what is not Slight haze and small water pockets clear on their own

The honest downside

When film is the wrong answer

Film usually lives on the room side of the glass, and that is where its life is decided. Every clean with a blade or a rough cloth marks it, and in time the edges lift and the corners catch. It is a surface to look after, not glass you can forget.

It also changes only the glass. Heat coming through a tired frame, a gap around the perimeter or an old sash that no longer closes properly stays exactly as it was, and film does nothing for noise or for dust.

If the windows are due to be replaced anyway, put the money into glass with the solar control built in. Film remains the sensible step for sound existing glazing, especially in a rented flat or a tower where the glass itself cannot be changed.

Consider instead Solar control glass

Frequently asked questions

No, and the difference matters. Film is a layer applied to glass you already have, which makes it the right answer for an existing building. Coated or body-tinted glass has the solar control built into the pane at manufacture, performs better and lasts as long as the glazing does. If you are replacing windows anyway, put the money into the glass rather than into film.

It depends on the grade, and the trade is real: the more heat a film rejects, the more daylight it tends to hold back. There are films that reject a lot of heat while keeping the view fairly bright, and they cost more. We will show you samples against your own window rather than ask you to choose from a chart.

It can, on the wrong unit. Film raises the temperature of the pane it is applied to, and on some sealed units — particularly older ones, or panes with existing edge damage — that added stress is a genuine risk. This is exactly what the survey is for, and it is why we sometimes advise against filming a specific window.

Usually. Most towers here control the appearance of the facade, and a film that changes how the glass reads from outside falls under that. Some buildings specify an approved shade. We check this before booking the work rather than after, because removing film from a whole apartment is an unpleasant conversation.
