Child safety

A window in a tower becomes a different object the moment there is a two-year-old in the flat. The fittings that answer that are ordinary and undramatic: a restrictor stay that lets the sash open a hand's width and no further, a handle that has to be pushed before it will turn, a key barrel where a key is genuinely appropriate, laminated glass in the panes a child can run into. What matters as much as the ironmongery is the thinking behind it — a window nobody can open is also a window nobody can get out of in an emergency, so the aim is a sash a child cannot work and an adult can release in a second.

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

The honest downside

Child-safety fittings are not the whole answer

Every fitting here works only while it is used. A restrictor released for cleaning and never re-engaged, a key left in the handle, a push-button an older child has watched an adult press — each is a gap no hardware closes. These fittings slow a small child down; they do not replace knowing where the child is.

Adults pay for them too. A restricted sash lets in less air and makes the outside of the glass harder to reach, and every full opening takes one more step. And they secure the sash, not the balcony: on a high floor, an open balcony door with a low or climbable railing beyond it is often the bigger risk.

Where the worry is the balcony, look at the balustrade itself — its height, its infill, what stands beside it. Child-safe fittings remain the right answer for every window a child can reach, with one window per bedroom left openable as a way out.

Consider instead Glass balustrades

Frequently asked questions

It is the core of it, and it is not the whole of it. A restrictor stay fixed to the frame and the sash limits how far the leaf will travel, and set properly the gap it leaves ventilates the room without admitting a child. Two things go with it. The fixing has to be into the profile itself rather than into a bead — a stay screwed to something that can be pulled away is decoration. And the furniture matters more than any fitting: an opening a child cannot reach is the safest of all, so we point out the beds, chests and sofas that quietly turn a high sill into a low one.

Sometimes, and far less often than people assume. A key-lockable handle is right for a window that is rarely opened and never needed as a way out. It is wrong on a bedroom window that forms part of your escape route, because the moment it matters is exactly the moment nobody can find the key. Our usual answer in family homes is a restrictor with a quick release plus a push-button handle: a child cannot work it, and an adult opens it fully in one movement without hunting through a drawer.

No — and it is a dangerous assumption. A screen is a light aluminium frame with mesh in it, made to keep insects out and to lift away for cleaning; it is not built to take a person's weight and must never be treated as a guard. A child leaning on a screen can push it clean out of the opening. Screens are well worth having, and our sister brand at mosquitonetdubai.ae can advise on them, but what stops a fall is the restrictor on the sash, not the mesh in front of it.

Most of it, yes. Restrictor stays and child-safe or lockable handles are fittings that go onto a sound frame, and the work is an afternoon rather than a replacement — the conditions are that the profile takes the fixing and the hardware suits the system you own. Laminated glass is a different matter, since it means changing the glazing unit, though it is worth doing where a pane runs to the floor. On windows we made, we can arrange this ourselves; for windows from another contractor we refer you to windowrepair.ae, the repair company in our group.
