Multifunctional glass

The old trade in hot countries was light for heat: darken the glass, cool the room, lose the view. A multifunctional coating exists to refuse that trade. It is one sputtered stack, several metallic films deep with dielectric layers between them, tuned so the visible part of daylight passes almost untouched while the infrared is turned back and the surface stays a poor radiator — solar control and low emissivity in the same coating, on the same face, on a pane that still reads as clear glass. It is what we reach for on glass walls and tower elevations, where daylight is the entire point of the architecture and nobody will accept a brown room.

    First job

Infrared turned at the outer pane

  • Low emissivity

    Second job

    Less radiant heat handed on

  • Daylight kept

    The condition

The reason not to simply tint

  • Neutral in view

    Appearance

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

How we place it on a building

  • Every elevation surveyed and its shading mapped Engineer on site within 48 hours
  • Multifunctional where daylight is the brief Glass walls, corner rooms, atria
  • A simpler coat where the sun never reaches North faces and deeply recessed balconies
  • Sample seen against the facade in daylight The reflection matters more than the swatch
  • Paired with a laminated or acoustic pane One unit, two panes, several jobs
  • Assembled in our Dubai factory One coating batch across an elevation

Partitions

Office partitions made of aluminium profiles are a simple, quick, and cost-effective way to organise efficient zoning within a large space, while maintaining interior unity.

The honest downside

The limits of multifunctional glass

Because it keeps the daylight, it keeps the glare. A west-facing study full of screens, or a room looking over a white terrace, can be cooler behind a multifunctional unit and still too bright to work in through the afternoon. It gives no daytime privacy either: from a neighbour's balcony the glass still reads as clear.

A pane replaced long after the rest can also show a slightly different reflection from its neighbours, because its coating comes from a new batch, and on a large glass wall that difference is visible from the street.

Where glare or privacy is the real complaint, a body tint deals with it directly and can share the unit with a coating. Multifunctional glass stays the right choice for glass walls and sunlit elevations where daylight and a view without a colour cast are the point.

Consider instead Tinted glass

Frequently asked questions

That it is not asked to do one thing. A plain low-E stack is tuned for emissivity; a plain solar-control stack is tuned for keeping the sun out. A multifunctional stack carries more layers — several extremely thin metallic films with dielectric layers between them — so it can hold three targets at once: pass the visible daylight, turn back the infrared, and stay a poor radiator on the cavity side. Those extra layers are the whole cost of it, and the reason we do not put it on every window in a villa.

A good one will not, and that is precisely what you are paying for. The layer stack is designed to sit flat across the visible spectrum, so the room keeps daylight that reads as daylight and the sky through the window is still the colour of sky. What does change is the outside of the building: a coated pane hands more light back to the street, and how that reflection sits against your stone or render is worth checking on a sample before a whole elevation is ordered.

On the elevations that decide how a room feels, usually yes. Where a simpler solar-control unit buys its performance by dimming the glass, a multifunctional stack buys it by being selective, so a west-facing glass wall can stay bright and still be liveable in August. Where it stops being worth it is anywhere the sun does not arrive — a shaded north face, a window under a deep balcony, an internal courtyard. Putting the most expensive coating there is money spent where the problem never was.

Yes — they are simply different panes of the same sealed unit. The coating lives on a cavity-facing surface of one pane, and the other can be laminated for safety, acoustic for a motorway, or both at once. The build-up gets heavier and thicker, which the frame, the hinges and the structural calculation all have to be sized for. That is checked at survey and written onto the drawing, rather than discovered when a sash starts to drop a year later.
