Quiet majlis inside a Dubai villa with a wide aluminium framed window looking onto a construction site and a busy road
  • MOTORWAY AND SITE NOISE
  • LAMINATED INTERLAYER

Acoustic glass

A flat above a motorway interchange, a villa beside a site that runs to midnight, a bedroom under an approach path — the noise is a different animal in each case and so is the glass. An acoustic unit pairs panes of unequal thickness with a soft laminating interlayer that damps the vibration instead of handing it on, so the frequencies ordinary glazing passes straight through are broken up. What the glass cannot do is rescue a leaky window. Sound takes the weakest path it can find, and often that path is a gap, not a pane.

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

How a noise problem is worked through

  • Listening at the opening before anything is quoted Engineer on site within 48 hours
  • Source named, not just the volume Low rumble is a different problem from impact
  • Pane pairing and interlayer chosen Unequal thicknesses, laminated on one side
  • Frame, seals and hardware checked A tight sash counts as much as the glass
  • Perimeter joint packed and sealed through The commonest leak on a retrofit
  • Fresh air route agreed in advance A sealed room still has to breathe

The honest downside

When acoustic glass is not worth it

Acoustic glass only pays off where the pane is the weakest part of the opening. In a tired frame, a sliding sash that closes onto a track rather than a full seal, or a wall with an unsealed air-conditioning pipe through it, the noise has an easier way in, and a better pane changes little. The laminated build-up is also heavier, so an old sash on worn hinges may not carry it.

It also works only while the window is shut. In a room aired by keeping the sash open for much of the day, the noise comes in with the air, whatever glass is in the frame.

Where the frame, the seals and the joint around it are the problem, a complete soundproof window deals with all of them together. Acoustic glass on its own is the right answer when the window is new or sound, closes tightly, and the glass is the last weak point left.

Consider instead Soundproof windows

Frequently asked questions

No, and no glazing can promise silence. Acoustic glazing lowers the noise and changes its character: the sharp edge comes off it and what is left reads as a distant hum rather than individual vehicles. How much you gain depends on what else leaks. On a tight new window the glass is the limit; on a tired frame the gaps are, and there the finest unit on the market changes very little.

Because two identical panes ring at the same pitch and hand the sound straight to one another. Give them different thicknesses and each is weak at a different part of the spectrum, so the pair no longer has one frequency it lets through cheaply. It is the same logic behind laminating only one of the two panes rather than both — the aim is a mismatched pair, not a symmetrical one.

Often it is not, and that is worth finding out before you buy glass. On a survey we check the joint around the frame, the sash seals, the air-conditioning penetration through the wall and the balcony door alongside. An unsealed perimeter joint will undo the best unit made, and a wall or a vent carrying the noise will not care what glass you fitted. We say what we find first and quote after.

Yes, and on a tower elevation it usually has to be. The laminated acoustic pane and the coated pane are simply different panes of the same sealed unit, so one unit carries both jobs. The build-up comes out heavier, which the frame, the hinges and the handles have to be sized for — checked at the survey and in the structural calculation, not discovered after the sash starts to drop.
