Aluminium railings

A railing is posts, a top rail and an infill, and in the Emirates the choice between them is settled on maintenance rather than looks. Aluminium does not rust; what it does do is corrode where a coating went on over a badly prepared surface, or where a stainless bolt sits hard against it within reach of the sea. So the real specification is pre-treatment, coating and isolation at every fixing, and only then the infill — bar, mesh, perforated panel or glass — which follows the building and whoever uses the terrace.

  • post and rail the structure
  • bar, mesh or glass infill choices
  • isolated every fixing

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

How a run of railing is specified

  • Run measured with levels and stair rakes taken On site within 48 hours to measure
  • Infill chosen for who actually uses the terrace Children, pets, wind and the view
  • Mounting decided with the waterproofing in mind Side-fix where the deck must stay closed
  • Isolation specified at every bolted joint Dissimilar metals kept apart
  • Sections cut, fabricated and coated in Dubai 3–5 weeks once the drawing is approved
  • Set, aligned and load-checked before sign-off Fixings and finish checked at handover

The honest downside

What an aluminium railing does not do

A railing stops people, not weather. Wind and blown sand pass straight through bars, mesh or perforated panel, so on an exposed roof terrace or a high balcony it gives no shelter at all — the seating behind it is as windy as it was before.

The infill also sits in the view. Standing, you look over the top rail; sitting in a low chair, you look through the bars. And horizontal bars or a coarse mesh can give a small child a foothold, which rules some patterns out on a family terrace.

If the terrace is for sitting and the wind or the view is the complaint, a glass balustrade gives shelter and a clear line at seated height, at the price of more cleaning. An aluminium railing stays the better answer on stairs, roof plant areas and wherever air should move freely and the upkeep has to stay low.

Frequently asked questions

Both work; they fail differently and they cost differently. Stainless is left bare and needs washing to stay bright, and the wrong grade near salt water will tea-stain. Aluminium is protected by its coating, which means the pre-treatment under that coating is doing the real work — done properly it is the quieter material to own, done cheaply it blisters at the fixings first. On a coastal villa we normally specify aluminium and spend the money on the finish.

There is no single answer, and any figure given before the job has been looked at is a guess. Spacing comes out of what the infill can span and what the rail has to resist when somebody leans hard on it — a glass infill behaves nothing like vertical bars, and a stair rake behaves nothing like a straight terrace edge. It is confirmed in the calculation for your run, then drawn, then made.

Coatings are not all the same, and this is the question worth asking a supplier. Ultraviolet light slowly breaks down the resin at the surface, which is what people see as chalking or loss of gloss, and the coating grade specified for a coastal or high-exposure job is not the one used on an indoor handrail. Washing the salt off matters too — deposits left to bake accelerate everything.

It can, but the method changes. Base plates bolted down mean drilling through a waterproofing layer, and every one of those holes has to be detailed and sealed properly, which is work to do once and correctly. Where there is an upstand we prefer to fix to the side of it, so nothing penetrates the flat surface at all. Best of all is being asked before the deck is closed.
