Commercial work is judged by what the tenant finds on Sunday morning. Cutting, drilling and lifting go into the night shift so the units either side keep trading and the floor above keeps working, and the area is handed back swept before the building opens. Partitions and shopfronts are two different problems: one is about acoustic separation and a floor plan that will change again in three years, the other about a clear span and a door that takes hundreds of cycles a day. Anything on an escape route or crossing a fire compartment is a certified assembly, not ordinary glazing.

Frequently asked questions
That is the normal way we run commercial jobs. The noisy stages — removals, drilling, cutting, lifting glass — go into the night shift or the weekend, behind hoarding, with dust screens and floor protection. Quiet work such as sealing and adjustment can carry on in the day. The unit is cleaned and reopened before trading hours, and only one section is ever in pieces at a time, so the shop never has to shut for the length of the contract.
It is certified as a whole assembly, not as a piece of glass. The frame profile, the glass, the intumescent seals that swell to close the gap in a fire, the ironmongery and the way it is fixed to the structure are all tested together, and swapping any one of them voids the rating. That also means an ordinary partition cannot be upgraded by changing the glass — the screen is a different product, ordered as such, with the certification supplied for approval.
Between two offices, the partition is rarely the weak point. A double-glazed screen sealed head and base will out-perform the path the sound really takes, which is over the ceiling tiles and through the void above the partition, or under a raised floor. If a meeting room has to be genuinely private, the screen has to run to the slab and the void has to be blocked — otherwise a heavier glass unit changes very little.
The landlord's fit-out authority first, and then the building or mall management for the works themselves. The submittal usually needs design intent drawings, elevations, material and finish samples, and a hoarding graphic, and the fit-out manual sets the rules on sightlines, signage zones and how far the shopfront may project. We prepare that pack and build to whatever the manual says rather than to our own preference.
