Low industrial warehouse units with roller shutter doors and a tall glazed showroom front on a sandy service road in Al Quoz

Al Quoz

Al Quoz is sheds — warehouses, workshops, showrooms and the galleries that have moved into them — and glazing here is judged by what it costs in downtime rather than by how it looks from the road. The buildings are framed in steel rather than blockwork, so a window is fixed to a structure that flexes and expands, and a detail that works in a villa wall will crack the finish or shear the fixing here. Two jobs come round again and again: daylight set high in a wall so a working floor can stop burning its lights all day, and an office boxed out in glass so a manager can see the floor without hearing it.

  • steel, not blockwork what we fix into
  • high in the wall where daylight enters
  • around the shift when work happens

Why choose aluminium windows?

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with three EPDM seal contours highlighted in red

    Durable EPDM seals

Three contours of EPDM seals keep the glass off the aluminium and close the gap between sash and frame, so dust, humid salt air and wind-driven rain stay outside.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with a foamed thermal insert highlighted

    Foamed thermal inserts

Foamed inserts fill the profile chambers and stop air circulating inside them, so less outside heat and street noise passes through the frame into the cooled room.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with polyamide thermal breaks highlighted

    Polyamide thermal breaks

Glass-filled polyamide thermal breaks up to 40 mm wide keep the outer and inner shells apart, so the frame holds its shape and its insulation through a UAE summer.

  • Aluminium window profile with an energy-efficient double glazing unit highlighted

    Energy-efficient double glazing

Double glazing up to 60 mm thick puts a sealed gap of still air or gas between the hot street and the cooled room, so less heat crosses the glass into the room.

How a working unit gets glazed

  • Unit walked with your operation in mind An engineer is on site within 48 hours
  • Structure identified before anything is drawn Steel, block, or a mixture of both
  • Fixings and movement joints specified for it The building moves; the glazing allows for it
  • Access agreed with the forklifts still running A working aisle is not a site compound
  • Made in our Dubai factory Three to five weeks once the drawing is signed
  • Each stage finished inside its agreed window The unit opens as normal the next morning

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and where the glass goes matters more than what the glass is. High-level glazing throws light deep into a shed and keeps the sun off the working floor and off the stock, which a window at eye level does not; on the elevations that take the afternoon, a solar-control unit and an external shade over the opening do the rest. Be wary of anyone who answers this with glass alone — every square metre of glazing is also a square metre of heat, and the honest version of this job is a modest area of it, placed deliberately.

That is one of the two things we do most here. The frame stands on the slab and is braced within itself rather than hung off a roof structure that moves, which is the mistake that cracks partitions in buildings like these. Glazing is laminated where noise is the point — a sheet of glass will not silence a workshop, but a laminated pane, a head detail that closes properly and a door that shuts on a seal will take the edge off it enough for a phone call.

Hours rather than days, and it is planned that way from the survey. Everything is made before we arrive, so the time on site is removal, fitting and sealing, and each opening is closed again the same shift — we do not leave a unit open to the yard overnight. Where a run of glazing is large we split it into stages and agree each one against your operation, so the loading bay you actually need this week is the one still working.

Nothing keeps it clean, so specify it to be cleanable. That means glass that can be reached without hiring access equipment, a track and threshold that a brush can be run through, drainage you can see instead of drainage buried in the floor build-up, and a finish that survives being washed regularly rather than one that chalks. Anodised and quality powder coatings both handle it; what fails on these roads is the detailing that traps grit where nobody can get at it.
