Windows in Al Ain

Al Ain sits inland among the oases, with no coast anywhere near it, and that removes the one factor that governs a specification everywhere else in the country. With no salt in the air the finish stops being a survival decision and becomes a design one — the whole powder-coating palette is open, and what a seafront villa spends on anodising and stainless goes into the profile and the glass instead. What takes the place of salt is the swing between a hard afternoon and a genuinely cool night, and the fine sand that comes off open desert. Most of the work is family compounds, where a majlis wing and the family house stand on one plot and want different things from the same window.

Why choose aluminium windows?

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with three EPDM seal contours highlighted in red

    Durable EPDM seals

Three contours of EPDM seals keep the glass off the aluminium and close the gap between sash and frame, so dust, humid salt air and wind-driven rain stay outside.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with a foamed thermal insert highlighted

    Foamed thermal inserts

Foamed inserts fill the profile chambers and stop air circulating inside them, so less outside heat and street noise passes through the frame into the cooled room.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with polyamide thermal breaks highlighted

    Polyamide thermal breaks

Glass-filled polyamide thermal breaks up to 40 mm wide keep the outer and inner shells apart, so the frame holds its shape and its insulation through a UAE summer.

  • Aluminium window profile with an energy-efficient double glazing unit highlighted

    Energy-efficient double glazing

Double glazing up to 60 mm thick puts a sealed gap of still air or gas between the hot street and the cooled room, so less heat crosses the glass into the room.

How a compound is specified

  • Survey covering every building on the plot Engineer on site within 48 hours
  • Exposure recorded as inland Finish and fixings chosen on that basis
  • Majlis and family house specified apart Same colour outside, different glazing inside
  • Glazing set elevation by elevation The afternoon side is not the courtyard side
  • Manufacturing in our Dubai factory Three to five weeks from the signed drawing
  • Installed and adjusted by our own crews Hardware set with the seasonal swing in mind

Frequently asked questions

It changes what the money is spent on. Along the coast a large part of the specification exists purely to survive salt — anodising or a marine-grade coat, stainless screws and hinge pins, a frame detailed so nothing sits wet in a chamber. Inland none of that is being fought, so the finish becomes a question of how the house should look and the full powder-coating palette opens up. The drivers here are different ones: a wide daily temperature swing, hard unshaded sun and fine sand, and those are answered in the profile, the glass unit and the sealing contours rather than in the coating.

Two things, and neither is a fault in the door. Aluminium expands as it heats and pulls back as it cools, and a long sliding leaf on a west elevation moves between an afternoon and a night — the frame is set with clearances that allow for that, and one fitted tight against the reveal will complain every summer. The second is the tracks: fine sand settles in the bottom channel and under the rollers and turns a light leaf heavy. A clean-out and an adjustment sorts most of it, which is why hardware here is chosen so it can be adjusted rather than sealed shut.

Stop the heat at the glass instead of removing it afterwards. A solar-control unit reflects and absorbs part of the sun's energy at the pane, and it belongs on the west and south elevations where the afternoon lands; the courtyard and shaded sides keep a clearer unit so the rooms do not go dim. Applied film on an old single pane is the wrong tool — it does nothing about the frame, and an untreated aluminium frame conducts heat straight through the wall on its own. Deep reveals and external shading in the architecture still do more than any glass specification can.

No — it is normal on a compound and it is drawn as one set. The majlis is a guest room used mostly in the evening, so it usually wants height, generous glass and a clear view over the courtyard; the family side wants privacy, higher sills and less exposure towards the road. Both take the same external colour, the same profile system and the same hardware family, so the compound reads as one property from outside while each building behaves the way it is actually used.
