Gulfex TB-600 thermal break

The thermal-break line from Gulfex (Gulf Extrusion LLC), the aluminium plant of the Al Ghurair group in Dubai — a different series from the sliding one, aimed at windows and doors where the frame itself has to stop conducting. Bare aluminium is an excellent conductor, which is exactly the wrong property in a frame separating a cooled room from a car park at fifty degrees. TB-600 puts an insulating bar between the outer and inner shells of the section so the two halves stop touching. We machine it to the manufacturer's specification in our Dubai workshop and fit it ourselves.

Why choose aluminium windows?

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with three EPDM seal contours highlighted in red

    Durable EPDM seals

Three contours of EPDM seals keep the glass off the aluminium and close the gap between sash and frame, so dust, humid salt air and wind-driven rain stay outside.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with a foamed thermal insert highlighted

    Foamed thermal inserts

Foamed inserts fill the profile chambers and stop air circulating inside them, so less outside heat and street noise passes through the frame into the cooled room.

  • Aluminium window profile cross-section with polyamide thermal breaks highlighted

    Polyamide thermal breaks

Glass-filled polyamide thermal breaks up to 40 mm wide keep the outer and inner shells apart, so the frame holds its shape and its insulation through a UAE summer.

  • Aluminium window profile with an energy-efficient double glazing unit highlighted

    Energy-efficient double glazing

Double glazing up to 60 mm thick puts a sealed gap of still air or gas between the hot street and the cooled room, so less heat crosses the glass into the room.

Frequently asked questions

Because the heat here travels the other way. In a cold market the break stops warmth leaking out; on a Dubai afternoon it stops the outside pushing in through the one part of the window that conducts beautifully. An unbroken aluminium frame joins a surface baking in the sun to a surface inside a cooled room, so it works as a bridge in both senses: it hands heat to the air conditioning all day, and its inner face sits cold enough in a humid coastal summer to collect water on the metal. Splitting the section is what removes that path.

Same plant — Gulfex in Dubai — different lines drawn for different jobs. Montana is the sliding series: the questions there are panel weight, running gear and a sill that lets sand out of the track. TB-600 is the thermal-break line for windows and doors, where the question is what the section does to heat and how the sash seals when it shuts. So the choice is not one brand against another but two decisions — how the opening moves, and whether the frame is broken.

It works in the right direction, and we will not put a percentage on it, because we do not have a figure for your flat that would be worth anything. What a saving actually depends on is the glass area against the frame area, the coating on the glass, the orientation of the wall, the shading in front of it and how the air conditioning is run. The frame is one term in that sum. Anyone quoting you a headline saving from the profile alone is guessing on your behalf.

Several. A window into an unconditioned store, a bathroom vent onto a shaded light well, a door from a car porch into a garage — anywhere there is no cooled air on one side, there is no bridge to break. We will say so during the survey and put the money into the openings that matter instead: the west and south rooms, the bedrooms and the majlis. Specifying one system for a whole villa is easy to sell and rarely the honest answer.
