Gulfex TB-600

TB-600 is the thermal-break hinged window series of Gulfex, the Dubai extruder of the Al Ghurair Group. It is drawn for casement and tilt-and-turn windows in villas and apartments: a 60 mm frame, an 18.6 mm polyamide strip between the outer and inner shells, and room for glazing units from 18 to 38 mm thick.

Technical data

Thermal-break hinged window series on a 60 mm frame, used for casement and tilt-and-turn windows. The same profile series also covers hinged doors.

Values are the manufacturer's published figures for the series; the actual value depends on the configuration — glass, size and hardware. Which series fits your opening is settled at the free survey.

A hinged sash closes against the frame on all four sides, which is why it suits rooms that are cooled around the clock. TB-600 does that job with a profile extruded here in Dubai by Gulfex (Gulf Extrusion LLC). We fabricate it to the manufacturer's specification in our Dubai factory and install it ourselves.

Where TB-600 windows belong

Villas, townhouses and apartments where the opening is a window rather than a wall of glass: bedrooms, studies, kitchens, stair landings. The series takes side-hung casement sashes and tilt-and-turn sashes, so a bedroom can air on the tilt at night while the living room next to it opens fully for cleaning.

The same family makes the TB-600 hinged doors on the same 60 mm frame and the same 18–38 mm glazing range. On one elevation the windows and the terrace door can then share sightlines, finish and glass build-up.

What the figures do in UAE heat

The 18.6 mm polyamide strip is the thermal break. It holds the outer aluminium shell, which sits in the sun, apart from the inner shell facing the cooled room, so heat has no direct metal path inwards and the inner face of the frame stays warmer. In a humid coastal summer that is the difference between a dry frame and water on the sill.

Gulfex publishes a thermal transmittance k of 3.0 W/m²K and does not say whether it is a frame (Uf) or whole-window (Uw) value, so we do not set it against the Uw figures of other series. The published duty rating is H-HC40. On a high floor or an exposed seafront elevation, the wind-load calculation for the building sets the sash sizes.

TB-600 or TB 62

TB 62 is the other hinged series from the same house: a 62 mm tubular frame, a 70.5 mm sash and a wider 22.0 mm polyamide strip, with the same published k of 3.0 W/m²K. Its glazing range is narrower, 24–28 mm. TB-600 is the one to choose when the glass has to be thinner or thicker than a standard double-glazed unit, for example a laminated acoustic build-up on the side facing a road.

For the window openings of a villa or apartment TB-600 is a sound, locally extruded hinged series; for a wall of glass, look at the sliding ranges.

The honest downside

When TB-600 is not the right window

A hinged sash needs space to open and only grows so far before its weight works against the hinges. A wide opening onto a balcony or terrace turns into several sashes with mullions between them, and every open sash either swings over the furniture or catches the wind outside.

There a sliding series fits better. TB105 from the same house carries sashes up to 2.4 m tall and 180 kg with glazing from 6 to 24 mm, and keeps the width free of a swinging leaf. TB-600 stays the right answer where a seal on all four sides matters more than width.

Consider instead Gulfex TB105

Frequently asked questions

Yes, for the window openings: bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens and stairwells, with casement or tilt-and-turn sashes. The frame is thermally broken, so it does not pass outside heat straight into a cooled room. For glazed walls and wide terrace openings we would put a sliding or lift-and-slide series there instead.

Glazing units from 18 to 38 mm thick. That covers a standard double-glazed unit with a solar-control or low-E coating as well as thicker laminated and acoustic build-ups for rooms facing a road. We choose the glass for each wall by its orientation during the survey.
