A folding door does what no sliding door can: when it is open, nothing stands in the opening except the stack at the side. The price is paid when it is closed, in frames and joints. The profile is extruded in Dubai by Gulfex (Gulf Extrusion LLC); we fabricate it to the manufacturer's specification in our Dubai factory and install it ourselves.
Where a folding door earns its place
Majlis rooms and living rooms that open onto a garden for gatherings, pool houses, and café or restaurant frontages that are thrown open in the cooler months. With up to 8 panels and a height of up to 3.5 m one door can close a wide, tall opening, and stacking to both sides keeps the centre clear.
Heat and dust when it is closed
Every panel joint is a seal, and a folding door has more of them than a sliding door of the same width. In a shamal those joints and the bottom track are where fine sand gets in, so the threshold detail and regular cleaning matter.
Because the manufacturer's site does not say whether the section is thermally broken, we confirm the profile section with Gulfex before we quote it for a room that is cooled most of the year. For an unconditioned pool house or a shaded café front that question matters less.
Folding or a sliding series from the same house
The Next and The Glide are thermal-break sliding systems: The Next with sashes up to 2.0 × 3.5 m, a stated Uw of 1.7 W/m²K and 2000 Pa wind-load resistance, The Glide with a 40 mm interlock and lift-and-slide sashes up to 420 kg. Their parked sashes cover part of the opening, but they close with fewer joints.
The Folding Door is for openings that spend much of their life fully open; if the room is closed and cooled most of the year, a thermal-break sliding series is the safer choice.
