Corner sliding doors

In a corner slider the two glazed walls of a room meet with nothing standing between them, and when the doors are pushed back the corner is simply gone — you walk out through the place where the building used to turn. Very little of that is a hardware decision. The column that would normally be at that point is holding up the floor above, so taking it away means the beam over the opening and the edge of the slab carry load in two directions rather than one, and that is agreed with an engineer while the structure is still drawings. What the door system contributes afterwards is comparatively plain: two straight tracks meeting at a mitre, leaves that stack away from the corner because none of them can turn it, and a junction at that point which has to shed water for as long as the building stands.

Advantages of working with us

  • In-house production

Windows, doors and glazed structures are made at our own factory in the UAE. Manufacturing takes 3–5 weeks from the survey, and the dates are written into the contract.

  • Room measurement

After a free consultation, an engineer comes to measure within 48 hours and answers the technical questions on site — openings, profile, glass and hardware.

  • Delivery of products

We deliver with our own transport across Dubai and all Emirates, and the installation date is agreed in advance so the crew arrives with the finished units.

  • Installation on site

A "clean" installation is carried out – all construction debris is removed, and dust and dirt are cleaned. Work can be conducted with or without your presence. The date and time are discussed individually.

  • Guarantee

The structures we make and the installation our crews carry out are covered by one warranty under one contract. The profile system also carries the manufacturer's warranty — up to 20 years, depending on the system.

  • Service

Warranty cases are handled by the same crews that did the installation: send the address and photos, and in most cases we can say before the visit whether it is an adjustment, a gasket or a glass unit.

Why a corner belongs on the drawing board

  • Engineer consulted before the opening exists The floor above still has to be held
  • Sag in the beam limited in the brief Glass will not carry a storey for you
  • Stacking direction chosen for each run Two walls of leaves, two destinations
  • Corner junction detailed as a drainage item Both tracks empty into that one spot
  • Travelling upright offered where a post is accepted It carries the seals and moves off with the leaf
  • Setting-out shared with ceiling and tiling One line runs through three trades

The honest downside

When a corner slider is not worth the structure

A corner that opens is a structural decision before it is a door. The column that would stand there has to be designed out, with the beam and the slab edge taking its load, and that is settled before the concrete is poured. In an existing villa with a corner column, the choices narrow to a travelling upright or glazing up to the column.

Space and upkeep follow. Each run needs blank wall to receive its leaves, and the corner junction is the low point where water and sand from both tracks gather, so its outlet needs clearing more often than a straight track.

If the building is already standing, or the walls either side are too short to park the leaves, a straight sliding door on the longer wall gives most of the opening without the structural work. A corner slider is still the right answer in a new build where the engineer plans the corner from the start.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, when the frame of the building has been arranged to allow it. A column at the corner of a slab is picking up floor from two directions at once; removing it hands that load to a beam and to a thickened slab edge, tied back into the structure so the corner is held rather than propped. That is a decision taken before the concrete is poured, by the engineer, and no door system can be substituted for it — the aluminium around a corner carries the weight of its own leaves and the wind on the glass, and nothing else at all. Where a building has already been built with a corner column, the honest choices are to glaze up to it or to use a travelling upright.

It is a slim post fixed to the leading leaf of one run instead of to the building. With the doors shut it stands at the corner and gives both runs a face to seal against, and it looks like an ordinary meeting stile; when you open that run, the post goes with the leaf and the corner clears behind it. Because it carries no floor, nothing above has to be redesigned, which makes it the sensible route in an existing villa and the cheaper route in a new one. What you accept in exchange is a visible upright in the corner of the view whenever the doors are closed, and an order of opening — that run has to move first.

Each run clears in its own direction, straight along its own track, because a leaf on a carriage cannot negotiate a change of direction. From the corner outwards they stack against the return wall, or park behind a fixed pane, or run into a pocket built in the flanking wall — and the wall they head for has to be long enough to receive them. That is usually the constraint that decides the whole arrangement: not how wide the corner opening can be, but how much blank wall there is on either side of it to put the glass away into. We set that out first and let the number of leaves per run follow from it.

Everything that goes wrong on a straight slider gathers at one spot. Both tracks fall towards the corner, so that is where the run-off from a squall and the sand off the terrace end up, and a joint that merely relies on sealant is likely to let go there in time. We detail it as a machined connector with a sump and a real outlet under it, reachable for clearing rather than buried. The second thing is movement: the beam above deflects a little as the building takes up its load and again as the day heats it, and the fixings have to allow that to happen without passing it into the head of the frame — otherwise the leaves start binding at the corner first.
